From 17 August 2021, Sunderland will have a new, free 12-week weight management programme which is funded by Public Health England.

Participants on the programme will receive support tailored to their specific needs, work with our friendly wellbeing experts and meet like-minded people, supporting them to make positive and long-lasting changes to their health.

To qualify for the programme, participants must meet all of the following criteria:

  • Be a Sunderland resident, or be registered with a Sunderland GP if they live outside the local authority boundary.
  • Be aged 18+
  • Have a qualifying Body Mass Index of 30+ (27.5 for BAME). Please note the programme is not suitable for pregnant women.

Once registered for the programme, participants will begin with a one-on-one consultation which will be repeated at the end of the 12-week course, with a follow-up session at 26 weeks. The programme is a mixture of group support, education around healthy eating, sleep, exercise and wellbeing as well as tailored one-to-one sessions.

Residents can sign up directly, or ask their GP, or a healthcare professional such as a practice nurse to refer them by completing this form.
